Contains 10 original letters and 1 typescript letter, dating from March 29 to November 27, 1863, from Clapp of Company K, 7th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment, to his wife while with Sibley's Expedition, March-August 1863, describing early training, engagements against the Sioux Indians in the West, his furlough at his home September to October while his wife and children were elsewhere; and duty in St. Louis, Mo., as a guard at a city prison giving details on the city, women's fashions, and the fate of the prisoners in general. Also includes 2 original letters dating from February 1865 while commanding his own company in Maysville, Kentucky.
